Executive Budgets
The Governor’s Executive Budget is printed each January. It is required by Article IV, Section 24 of the Missouri Constitution and Section 33.270 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. It is not the final budget for the fiscal year. After the Governor submits a recommended budget, the General Assembly reviews requests and passes a budget in May. The Governor may veto (remove) items from the appropriations enacted by the General Assembly. This authority is granted in Article IV, Section 26 of the Missouri Constitution and Section 26.030 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. The State of Missouri’s budget is not final until it is signed into law by the Governor, usually in June. Missouri’s fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30.
