State Releases April 2009 General Revenue Report
JEFFERSON CITY - State Budget Director Linda Luebbering announced today that 2009 fiscal year-to-date net general revenue collections declined 0.5 percent compared to 2008, from $6.45 billion last year to $6.42 billion this year.
Net general revenue collections for April 2009 increased by 0.3 percent compared to those for April 2008, from $1.021 billion to $1.024 billion.
GROSS COLLECTIONS BY TAX TYPE
Sales and use tax collections
- Decreased 4.8 percent for the year, from $1.65 billion last year to $1.57 billion this year.
- Decreased 7.0 percent for the month.
Individual income tax collections
- Increased 1.0 percent for the year, from $5.01 billion last year to $5.06 billion this year.
- Decreased 4.0 percent for the month.
Corporate income and corporate franchise tax collections
- Decreased 12.0 percent for the year, from $501.6 million last year to $441.2 million this year.
- Decreased 19.3 percent for the month.
All other collections
- Decreased 1.7 percent for the year, from $399.3 million last year to $392.3 million this year.
- Decreased 2.5 percent for the month.
Refunds
- Decreased 6.1 percent for the year, from $1.11 billion last year to $1.04 billion this year.
- Decreased 33.4 percent for the month.
Luebbering noted that individual income tax collections for the month fell short of the already dire forecast. "It is likely that revenues will decline even more than the four percent decline anticipated in the consensus revenue estimate for Fiscal Year 2009," Luebbering said. The state has repaid the cashflow borrowing from the budget reserve fund; which is constitutionally required to be repaid by May 15.
