Governor Honors Missouri's State Employees
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon will recognize all state employees for their dedication to public service at the annual Missouri State Employee Recognition Day ceremony held on the steps and south lawn of the Missouri State Capitol Building from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Friday, May 29. This event is part of the Missouri State Employee Recognition Week celebration.
"During these tough economic times, state employees have had to do more with less," Gov. Nixon explained. "Still, they have continued to provide excellent service to the citizens of the state. State employees work hard and take care of our citizens every day. This event is designed to show appreciation for all that they have done."
This year's theme is "There's More in Missouri…Excellence in Public Service." At the event state agencies, organizations and local business will have displays and information available to the public highlighting their accomplishments and services.
Additionally, on Wednesday, May 27, during a special ceremony in the Governor's Office, the Missouri State Employee Awards of Distinction will be presented to one or more state employees in the following categories:
- Public Service - for outstanding dedication to the advancement of state service far and above the employee's normal job duties.
- Human Relations - for outstanding contributions toward enhancing the quality and morale of the workplace, or creating a better public image of state government.
- Innovative Suggestion of the Year - for the employee who submitted a suggestion that best exemplifies how the ideas of state employees can add value" to state government.
- Safety and Heroism -for demonstrating exceptional judgment or courage in a potentially serious situation outside the scope of the workplace.
