State Releases January 2009 General Revenue Report
JEFFERSON CITY - State Budget Director Linda Luebbering announced today that 2009 fiscal year-to-date net general revenue collections declined 0.5 percent compared to 2008, from $4.46 billion last year to $4.44 billion this year.
Net general revenue collections for January 2009 decreased by 1.9 percent compared to those for January 2008, from $736.6 million to $722.8 million.
Luebbering noted January collections were hampered by two fewer working days.
GROSS COLLECTIONS BY TAX TYPE
Sales and use tax collections
- Decreased 5.0 percent for the year, from $1.18 billion last year to $1.12 billion this year.
- Decreased 12.0 percent for the month.
Individual income tax collections
- Increased 4.1 percent for the year, from $3.11 billion last year to $3.24 billion this year.
- Increased 0.8 percent for the month.
Corporate income and corporate franchise tax collections
- Decreased 4.4 percent for the year, from $296.1 million last year to $283.1 million this year.
- Increased 24.7 percent for the month.
All other collections
- Decreased 0.9 percent for the year, from $248.1 million last year to $245.8 million this year.
- Decreased 31.0 percent for the month.
Refunds
- Increased 19.8 percent for the year, from $372.2 million last year to $445.9 million this year.
- Decreased 6.6 percent for the month.
Luebbering stated it is clear the national recession is impacting the state’s general revenues. She also noted that net collections for the month were consistent with the recently announced consensus revenue estimate. The Division of Budget and Planning will carefully monitor the situation to ensure resources and expenditures remain in balance.
