Missouri Ranks among Top States for Cyber Security Website
Website Keeps Visitors and Information Safe, Secure While Providing Transparency
JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Missouri has been named a finalist among the nation's states and local governments that use their websites to promote cyber security, Office of Administration (OA) Commissioner Kelvin Simmons announced today. Missouri was one of seven finalists in a new Best of the Web Contest conducted by the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), which is designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as the ISAC for state and local governments.
The Best of the Web Contest, held in conjunction with national Cyber Security Awareness Month, was based upon several criteria including cyber security content, usability, accessibility, and appearance. The goal of the contest was to recognize commendable sites and highlight them as best practices for others to consider when developing or redesigning their own sites.
OA's Information Security Management Office (ISMO), which is housed within OA's Information Technology Services Division, is tasked with managing the State's cyber security system. From November 2009 through October 2010, there were 156 million malicious attack attempts to State of Missouri systems. In response to the ever-increasing demand for proactive cyber security, below are ISMO top priorities:
- Protect state information assets
- Deploy content filtering
- Engage network defenses
- Conduct assessments
- Guide security standards and policies
- Conduct forensics
In response to the governor's call for greater transparency in state government, the ISMO is working daily to protect online content and data, while the State continues to deliver more key services and information to visitors through a safe and secure website.
