This course is intended for those who have attended course 520-JCL/Utilities or have six months of experience in using JCL in the workplace.

This class is for application programmers, technical support personnel, and others who need a more advanced understanding of JCL and related utilities.

Course Description

Advanced OS/390 JCL is designed to teach students advanced techniques in coding OS/390 JCL statements, as well as coding tips for use in procedures using symbolic parameters, statement overrides, restart logic and restart pitfalls. Students will also gain a complete understanding of the use of the OUTPUT, EXEC COND, IF THEN /ELSE/ENDIF, and JES2 statements. Finally, students will learn how to efficiently handle data sets in terms of optimum buffering, deferring volume mounts, minimizing the number of units needed per job step and freeing closed data sets.
