MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER

DEFINITION

This is work involving the operation of a motor vehicle to transport individuals and/or a variety of supplies, products, or materials.

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of such duties as transporting state officials and/or clients, delivering mail and messages, picking up and/or delivering a variety of supplies, products, or materials, and miscellaneous errands.

Operates a motor vehicle placarded for hazardous materials or designed to transport 16 or more persons.

Transports staff/clients with responsibility for assisting staff in the care of clients; responsible for the clients care in the absence of assigned staff.

Loads, unloads, and performs necessary handling operations in connection with materials being transported.

Verifies description and quantities of all items picked up or delivered.

Prepares and maintains records of materials delivered for use as required in investigation and follow-up for property control purposes.

Maintains motor vehicle and related equipment by identifying, scheduling, and/or making needed repairs.

Performs necessary clerical tasks incidental to the operation of a motor vehicle and related equipment.

Exercises independence in performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction.

Performs other related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

Comprehensive knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding the safe operation of motorized equipment, and of the traffic laws of the State of Missouri.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.

Ability to perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Ability to maintain records and prepare necessary reports.

Ability to lift, move, and stack heavy objects.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to understand and carry out instructions.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid Missouri operator's license appropriate for vehicle assignment at time of appointment.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.)

One or more years of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle; and completion of the eighth grade.
