PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I

DEFINITION

This is entry-level unskilled work involving physical labor in the performance of maintenance tasks in a state park or historic site.

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Cleans vault latrines, restrooms, picnic areas, and/or camp areas; mows grass, hauls trash, and cuts/hauls firewood.

Operates mowing machines, tractors, trucks, snow removal equipment, chain saws, and similar equipment.

Performs minor repairs such as replacing washers on plumbing, painting structures, and replacing screens and glass panes on windows and doors.

Greets the public and provides information regarding park rules, regulations, and available resources.

Opens and closes park facilities with the changing seasons by cleaning equipment and winterizing plumbing and structures.

Assists as a laborer in the maintenance and construction of equipment, structures, and facilities.

Assists in the operation and maintenance of sewage lagoons.

Serves as a lead worker of seasonal workers and/or volunteers.

Functions as facility manager in their absence as needed.

Receives general administrative direction in regard to routine work assignments and is provided specific instructions and close supervision on new assignments.

Performs other related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

Skill in the operation, cleaning, care, and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment.

Ability to understand and carry out instructions without immediate supervision.

Ability to provide information to the public regarding park rules, regulations, and available resources.

Ability to operate motor vehicles, and use hand and power tools.

Ability to perform manual work requiring physical exertion.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate; and, possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

OR

One or more years of experience in the building (carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, drywall, etc.), electrical, plumbing, or mechanical (heating and cooling, refrigeration, welding, etc.) trades, or comparable farm operation work; and completion of the eighth grade; and , possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
