GENERAL & TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT EASe
1. What is EASe?
EASe stands for Electronic Application System. It is the online application utilized by the State of Missouri in establishing and maintaining registers of eligible applicants for employment opportunities in Merit System agencies. For opportunities in non-merit agencies, please contact those agencies directly as they may require a separate application. The following links provide a list of merit and non-merit agencies in Missouri: Merit Agencies or Non-Merit Agencies.

3. Do I need a password to use the EASe employment application?
Yes. The password is used to ensure access to the on-line application and will provide security for your personal information.
4. Is my Social Security Number required in order to use the EASe employment application?
Yes, the SSN is the unique identifier for individuals using EASe. If you have concerns about security in providing your SSN, please see #12 below.
5. Will I be charged a fee for using EASe?
No. Use of the on-line application (EASe) is free of charge.
(return to top) 6. Is there any specific time of the day when I cannot use EASe?
Generally, the EASe application will be available at all times; however, there will be "down time" necessary for system updates, which will likely occur for brief periods of time between midnight and 6:00A.M.
7. What internet browser is recommended to view EASe?
Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher is the recommended browser to use with EASe.
8. What browser settings are required to use the EASe system?
If you experience problems when you try to logon to EASe, you can check the Internet Explorer settings by clicking on "Tools" menu item and then "Internet Options." Click on the "Advanced tab." Be sure the box(s) for "Use SSL" is/are checked. Click the "Security" tab and then click the "Custom Level" button. Scroll down to the "Scripting" category. Click the "Enable" radio button under "Active Scripting" if it is not already selected. Newer versions of the browser give you the option of allowing pop-ups from specified sites. If your browser is blocking pop-ups, you need to set the pop-up blocker settings to always allow pop-ups from the online application website. The site to always allow pop-ups from is: *.ease.mo.gov
(return to top)
9. What is the best monitor resolution (pixel) setting to use for EASe?
A resolution of 800 x 600 or higher is recommended for best viewing. You can use 640 x 480, but you will have to scroll to the right to see the entire width of the page.
10. When I view the on-line application, there are pages where words are cut-off or they overlap and are very difficult to read. Also, at the end of the application it will not let me submit my application. Why does it appear this way and why won't it let me submit my application?
Your display settings may be set to use large fonts that can distort the pages of the on-line application. Due to this distortion, the "Submit" option at the end of the application may not function correctly. In order to change your settings, right click on your desktop, select "Properties" from the list, click on the "Settings" tab and then click the "Advanced" button, click the "General" tab, select small fonts or 96dpi or smaller from the drop down list and then click "OK" until you are back to your desktop. You may have to restart your computer for the new setting to take affect.
11. Does the EASe application work on a Macintosh computer?
No, the EASe application does not work with any browser that runs on a Macintosh. If you wish to use EASe, you must access it from a computer that has a Windows operating system and use the recommended browsers. (See #7)
12. Will the information I place in EASe be secure?
Yes, the site is SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protected, which means the data you send via the internet is encrypted and cannot be viewed by anyone. Your data is stored in a secure environment. In order for your information to remain secure, however, it is critical that you do not share your password with anyone and that you properly log off from the EASe application when you are finished or close your browser.
13. What if I change my email address?
If you have had a change in your email address, please log on to the on-line application (EASe) to make the necessary change or notify the Division of Personnel to update your records.
14. What happens if the Division of Personnel does not have a valid email address to contact me?
All communication regarding the EASe application will be by email. It is critical that your email address be up-to-date in order to receive important communication regarding examinations and register activity. Failure to maintain a correct email address may even result in an applicant's name being removed from the register.
(return to top) 15. What if I forget my password?
If you previously registered to use the EASe application and have forgotten your password, you may (through the on-line application) request that your password be emailed to you. You will be asked to answer a question to properly identify you in the EASe registry.
16. How often can I change my password?
You can change your password as often as you like.
17. How often can I update my personal information in EASe?
You can update your personal information as often as needed.
18. What does the browser's "Back" button do?
If you click the browser's "Back" button while you are logged on to EASe, you will be taken back to the page you were on before you entered EASe, not to the last page you were on in EASe. You can use the browser's forward button to return to EASe, but any data you did not save will be lost. You will not be logged out of the application when you use the browsers "Back" button, and therefore it is important if you wish to quit using EASe that you use the "LogOff" link in the upper right portion of the last EASe page you visit.
19. I registered to use EASe, but I don't have time right now to enter all of the data required for steps 1-3. Can I logoff and return to enter the rest of my information later?
Yes. If you successfully registered, the information you provided is saved so you don't have to register again. To access the EASe application again, you need to log on providing your SSN and password. You will go directly to the "Step 1: Personal Information" page where you can review your information. If you need to change anything on this page, you need to use the "Save and Continue" button. If you don't need to change anything, you can go directly to the last page you were on when you logged off previously. For example, if you previously registered and completed up to and including the "Step 2: High School or GED" page, you can use the button on the left to go directly to that page. Once there, you can click the "Save and Continue" button to proceed. If you don't remember how far you got the first time, you can use the "Save and Continue" button after reviewing the information on each page to progress through the application.
Optionally, you can try one of the buttons on the left side of the page. If you need to complete a page before you can open the page you selected, you will be notified where you need to go to proceed.
20. What is the best way to exit EASe once I have completed the application process, or updated my personal information?
You should always logoff of EASe using the "LogOff" link which is in the upper right corner of every page or close the browser when you are finished with your EASe session. This is especially critical if you are using a computer to which other people have access. If you do not log off when you are finished and you leave the browser open, the next person who uses the computer could view and update your information if your session has not expired due to a period of inactivity.
21. I got interrupted while I was using the EASe system and when I returned to enter more information, I had to log on again. Why?
Your session will timeout after a period of 60 minutes of inactivity, which then requires you to log on to EASe again. Any information you did not save before timing out will be lost.
22. Will all the information I place in EASe be saved if I exit EASe before I complete all the steps?
Applicants have the option of clicking "Save and Continue" after completing each page of the application in steps 1, 2 and 3. If you do not click "Save and Continue" and you exit the on-line application, only the information entered on previous pages will be saved. In order for information from steps 4 and 5 to be retained, applicants must agree to the terms and conditions stated and click the "Submit My Application" button.
23. How do I access the electronic application?
For job classes that require completion of the electronic application, it can be accessed through the Division of Personnel's website at: http://www.oa.mo.gov/pers/JOAs/newjoas.htm
(return to top)
24. Why does the application keep recycling to the top of the registration page when I click the "Save information on this page and enter the Online Application" link? Why can't I view my work history? I've clicked on the password reminder button, but nothing happens. Why?
These problems are typically the result of pop-up blockers. Turning them off may not always rectify these problem; therefore, we suggest changing your pop-up blocker settings to "always allow" pop-ups from the online application website. To do this, go to "Tools" on your browser window and choose "Pop-up Blocker" from the drop down list. If the pop-up blockers are "off", turn them "on" in order to enable access to the "Pop-up Blocker Settings". If the pop-up blockers are already "on", you should already have access to the "Pop-up Blocker Settings". If you had to turn the pop-up blockers "on", you will need to select "Tools" from the browser window again, select "Pop-up Blocker" from the drop down list and then select "Pop-up Blocker Settings". In the "Address of website to allow" field, enter www.ease.mo.gov and then click the "Add" button. "Close" the "Pop-up Blocker Settings" window. Once again, select "Tools" from the browser window. Turn the pop-up blockers "off". You should be ready to proceed with the online application.

PREFERENCE POINTS
1. What are Veterans Preference Points?
Veterans preference points refer to the credit allowed for honorably discharged veterans, disabled veterans, surviving spouses and spouses of disabled veterans who are citizens of Missouri in recognition of military service. The on-line EASe application guides you through a series of questions which could result in veterans preference points being added to your final passing score.
2. If I am not a resident of Missouri, can I receive Veterans Preference Points?
No. Only residents of Missouri are eligible for veterans preference as provided in the Missouri Constitution (Article IV, Section 19).
ELIGIBILITY, EXAMINATIONS, RATINGS AND RECRUITMENT
1. How is eligibility determined for a job class?
Your answers to specific questions within the on-line application process (Step 5, Assessment of Qualifications) will determine if you possess the minimum education and experience required for the specific job class. The minimum education and experience qualifications are listed in the official job class specification.
2. What types of examinations are there?
The examination components of each job class typically involve a rating of the applicant's education and experience (E&E) and/or a written examination. The examinations are specific to the job class and are designed to assess the relative qualifications of applicants.
3. What is a rating of education and experience?
Once the EASe system determines that the applicant is eligible for the job class that has an "E&E" component, the applicant is presented with a series of questions. Based on the answers to these education/experience questions, a grade is derived. A grade notice is emailed to the applicant and the applicant is added to the appropriate register.
4. What is a written examination?
Written examinations typically consist of approximately 100 multiple choice questions dealing with essential knowledge and skills required for entry into the job. Once the EASe system determines that the applicant is eligible for the job class that has a written component, the EASe system will schedule the applicant to take the written examination at a later date. (See Exam Schedule) Written examinations are not administered online. Outlines of the main topic areas of an examination are available by contacting the Division of Personnel and requesting the specific examination outline you are interested in.
5. If I need to take a written exam, how will I know when and where to take it?
A notification from the Division of Personnel will be sent to the applicant's email address on record approximately two weeks prior to the examination date indicating the date, time and location of the examination(s). In addition, applicants can view and print their exam notification from the Personal Information page of their on-line application approximately one (1) week prior to the exam date. (See Exam Schedule)
6. I previously saw a job classification listed on-line and now the job is no longer listed. What happened?
Certain job classes are opened for recruitment for a limited amount of time. The job class you are searching for either closed for recruitment since the last time you visited the on-line application or the job class may have been deleted from the classification and pay plan.
7. What if a job class is closed for recruitment - can I still apply?
No. When a job class is closed for recruitment, applications are not accepted. Job classes that do open for recruitment are posted to our website on a weekly basis. It is suggested that applicants check the site on a regular basis to keep informed of any recruitment activities. (See Current Recruitment Activity)
8.I have previously applied on-line. Now I want to apply for a job class that is open for recruitment, but not listed in EASe. What should I do?
On-line applications cannot be used to process job classes that have not been converted to the Electronic Application System (EASe); therefore, applicants must complete a paper application for these job classes and submit it to the Division of Personnel for processing.
9. Must I apply on-line for a job class that is available in EASe?
Yes, applicants are expected to complete the application on-line; however, some exceptions may apply. Each situation will be evaluated to determine appropriate action.
10. If I update my education, training and/or work history, will my score automatically be revised?
You may access your application and update information on your work history or education at any time. However, this WILL NOT change your score for that job class. For job classes that are entirely or partially rated based on education and experience, you would need to re-apply for the job class to expect any change in your score.
11. How/when can I re-apply for a job class?
If your name has previously been added to a register for a job class, you must wait at least 3 calendar months from the latest addition date to re-apply. At that time, you would access your application and complete Step 4 (Selecting a Job) and Step 5 (Assessment of Qualifications). Only the assessment portion of the application (Step 5) can affect your score. Your latest score is the score that will be added to the register, whether higher or lower than your previous score.
If you have been determined ineligible for a job class, you may re-apply for such class one day later, if applications are still being accepted.
SPECIALTY CODES
1. What is a specialty code?
Merit system agencies may identify specialized education and/or experience requirements in some positions within certain job classes. These areas of specialization appear in Step 5 of the EASe application for each such job class. Applicants may review the specialty requirements, determine whether the areas of specialization apply to them, and claim the applicable specialties. Specific instructions are provided in EASe regarding specialty codes.
REGISTERS, GRADES AND AVAILABILITY
1. How do I extend/reactivate my name on the merit register for a specific job classification?
It will be necessary for you to notify the Division of Personnel in writing or by email to extend or re-activate your name on the register. The Merit System Law does not permit the life of a register to exceed three years from the date of addition to the register.
2. How do I change my job availability?
Written or email notification to the Division of Personnel is necessary to change job availability.
3. I know my name is on the register for a specific job class, but I didn't receive a grade notice. What should I do?
It will first be necessary for you to log on to the on-line application and verify the accuracy of your email address, updating any information necessary. The contact the Division of Personnel for a copy of your grade notice.
4. How will I receive my grade notice?
Grade notices will be sent to the email address currently on record. If you have had an email address change, please be sure to log on to the on-line application to make any necessary changes or notify the Division of Personnel to update your records.
5. If I do not receive a passing score on an examination, will I still receive a grade notice?
Yes. Regardless whether an applicant receives a passing or failing score on an examination, they will be notified via email of the results of their examination(s).
(return to top) 6. When is my on-line Active Register Status page updated?
The Active Register Status page is updated at the time your name is added (or restored) to a register for a job class.
7. What happens after I've completed the on-line application, received my grade score, and been added to the merit system register?
When vacancies occur, merit system agencies access the register for a list of available candidates. Names are certified in grade order and according to applicants' stated availability (location/date/salary). Agencies may contact eligible individuals by email or postal mail regarding their availability for consideration for vacancies.
