Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

This position with OA/FMDC performs semi-skilled and skilled work in Division of Youth Services facilities.

This position performs preventative maintenance and monitoring activities on equipment such as air handlers, refrigeration and air conditioning units, high and low pressure steam systems, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Records meter and gauge readings, cleans coils, and oils motors, replaces belts, filters, switches, gauges and motors. Assists skilled carpenters, plumbers, electricians, electronics technicians, or other high-level maintenance staff in performing more complex maintenance repair and construction activities. Paints buildings and equipment, patch plaster walls, and repairs or replaces tile and other wall coverings. Repairs and constructs wood and metal equipment, furniture, doors, windows, shelves, floors, security screens and other fixtures; assembles modular furniture. Opens stopped sewage and drain lines. Replaces or repairs faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, water lines, and other plumbing equipment and fixtures. Repairs and replaces electrical outlets, light fixtures, switches and other controls; repairs electrical motors, generators and communication equipment; performs more complex electrical work (such as working with high voltage electrical systems) with appropriate training and education. Repairs, adjusts and calibrates a wide variety of machines and equipment such as window air conditioners, general office equipment, metal furniture and structures, automotive equipment, and kitchen appliances. Supervise a limited number of unskilled and semi-skilled workers involved in routine maintenance and labor work. Provides direction and training to seasonal staff regarding routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds and facilities, and safe/proper operation of equipment and machinery. Maintains an inventory and orders supplies, replacement parts, tools and equipment. Receives assignments in the form of work orders, which may include sketches, penciled layouts, or blueprints. Assists at assigned facility or aid other facilities as directed.   Operates, maintains, and repairs facility machinery, equipment, and vehicles; calibrates equipment as required.  Mows and rakes grass, clear weeds & brush; plows snow and clears walkways. Inspect facilities’ structures and equipment for safety and risk factors; recommends solutions. Receives general supervision from a Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor. Performs other related work as assigned.     

Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Intermediate knowledge of the standard tools and practices of various trades such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and plastering. Intermediate knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical and building trades. Intermediate knowledge of the operation, cleaning, care and maintenance of equipment and hand and power tools. Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of mechanical and building trades.  Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, plans, penciled layouts, and drawings.  Ability to understand and carry out instructions independently.  Ability to work independently or within a team. Ability to supervise and instruct semi-skilled and unskilled workers.  Ability to operate a motor vehicle, mowing machinery, tractors, and/or motorized equipment as necessary in the performance of assignments. Ability to lift and carry heavy loads, bend, stoop, reach and climb a ladder. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as necessary in the performance of assignments.  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Drivers License.
