This is senior-level and/or supervisory licensed practical nursing work in a state agency.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Possession of a current license to practice as a Practical Nurse in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri’s Nurse Licensure Compact; and two or more years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Functions as the nurse in charge of an assigned shift or on a ward or unit that requires close supervision or performs independent practical nursing duties which require the application of specialized nursing skills.
Supervises lower-level Licensed Practical Nurses and/or direct care staff in the performance of their duties; participates in the continued in-service training and instruction of unit staff; and makes work assignments, completes evaluations, and prepares records/reports.
Monitors workflow and recognizes emergency situations; investigates incidents/accidents involving patients, staff, and/or visitors.
Assists physician and/or Registered Nurse with rounds and ensures medical orders are communicated to lower-level Licensed Professional Nurses and/or direct care staff.
Performs practical nursing duties such as treating pressure sores and other skin wounds, performing tracheal care (oral and nasal tracheal suctioning), changing dressings, providing breathing treatments, inserting catheters, and instilling and flushing bladder irrigations.
Reviews laboratory and radiology results, tests/studies, treatment records, flow sheets, and clinical data; reports information to physician and/or supervisor.
Assists physician in performing a variety of procedures such as paracentesis, biopsies, venous cut-downs, bronchoscopy, and/or proctoscopies.
Performs procedures, operates EKG and EEG equipment, and observes cardiac monitors and the functioning of pacemakers.
Administers medications and treatments, as ordered; monitors patients for possible drug interactions or side effects.
Observes patients to detect deviations from normal conditions; records and reports vital signs and symptoms; and performs laboratory draws.
Reviews and prepares nursing assessment summaries; prepares and implements health care plans.
Participates in the patient admission process and in nursing care planning.
Communicates with patients’ families and other health care providers regarding patient outcomes and identified concerns.
Reviews and approves requisitions for supplies and repairs.
Completes practical nursing duties with independence; work is reviewed through reports, inspections, and observation.
Performs related work as assigned.
Comprehensive knowledge of practical nursing theory, current practices, and techniques.
Comprehensive knowledge of agency practices, rules, and regulations.
Intermediate knowledge of the general principles of supervision and unit management.
Ability to function as team leader in situations requiring a high level of practical nursing skill.
Ability to apply practical nursing principles in the care of persons with physical or mental illness, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or the geriatric population.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to keep records and make accurate reports.
Ability to work assigned schedule which may include a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or required overtime.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and patients’ families/guardians.
