Definition

This is supervisory technical work coordinating and conducting inspections of business facilities licensed by one or more Boards of the Division of Professional Registration within the Department of Economic Development.

An employee in this class is responsible for supervising, coordinating and participating in inspections of assigned business facilities for one or more boards for the Division of Professional Registration to ensure compliance with state laws, statutes and regulations. Work involves monitoring and conducting safety and sanitation inspections of facilities to determine compliance with operating requirements. Work also involves reviewing and responding to inquires and complaints from consumers and the general public regarding operation, safety and sanitation of facilities and providing technical assistance regarding licensure issues to business operators, licensed practitioners, and other interested parties. Supervision, training and mentoring are provided to staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the designated board(s) or other administrative superior, and is primarily reviewed through submission of activity and inspection reports; however, the employee exercises initiative and judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

Job Duties

Reviews and responds to complaints from consumers, students and the general public regarding the operation, safety and sanitation of the assigned facility; directs staff to conduct an inspection as necessary; reviews completed inspection reports.

Oversees and/or conducts initial, annual, random or renewal inspections of assigned facilities to assure conformity with applicable state laws or licensed board rules and regulations; verifies licensure of facilities and staff; inspects and reviews business documentation as it relates to licensure requirements; checks facilities for layout and adequacy of floor space, proper condition of equipment, and appropriate sanitation conditions.

Conducts or reviews follow up inspections to ensure corrective actions have been implemented.

Provides advice, updates and consultation to business operators, licensed practitioners and other appropriate individuals on issues relating to inspection activities.

Reviews and approves inspectors’ reports; compiles and submits activity and inspection reports.

Provides orientation and training to new employees; approves leave requests; monitors and evaluates employee performance.

Receives and refers inquiries from licensees, students, consumers, public officials and the general public to appropriate board personnel.

Plans and schedules work activities to achieve established goals; reviews inspection staff activity reports.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.)

 

Two years of experience as an Inspector (Professional Registration) with the Division of Professional Registration.

OR

Four years of experience as a licensed professional in an industry regulated by the Division of Professional Registration.

OR

Four years of professional or technical experience in business administration, licensing, law enforcement or closely related areas; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency. (Education in an accredited college or university with specialization in criminal justice, law enforcement, criminology, business administration, social sciences, environmental sciences or related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated experience.)
