This is responsible professional architectural work in the design for the construction or alteration of building facilities and in the review of plans submitted by consulting architectural/engineering firms.
An employee of this class develops and reviews plans and specifications for architectural features of construction projects, and coordinates moderately complex construction projects from the bid proposal to completion. Work normally involves supervision of personnel performing drafting of design details. The employee receives work assignments and supervision from a technical superior, but is expected to perform with considerable independence.

Two years of experience as an Architect I in an agency under the Missouri Merit System.
OR
Registration as an Architect by the Missouri Board of Registration for Architects, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
OR
Two years of professional experience in the field of architecture; and graduation from a college or university accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, with a Bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural engineering, environmental design, building technology or a closely related field. (A Master's degree in any of the above listed fields may be substituted for the required two years of experience.)

Confers with consulting architects and engineers and with administration, heads of departments or institutions on construction projects.
Maintains effective liaison with other state agencies and private groups and enterprises.
Prepares architectural plans and specifications for new structures and for repairs and alterations of existing structures.
Coordinates engineering and architectural design on assigned projects.
Prepares architectural renderings, perspectives and color studies.
Prepares cost estimates for construction, repairs, and alterations.
Reviews and evaluates plans and specifications prepared by architectural/engineering firms to determine compliance with sound professional practices and established standards, codes, and regulations.
Prepares progress reports and keeps superiors informed as to the status of projects.
Visits sites to inspect construction or alteration in order to insure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
Makes recommendations regarding the solution of maintenance problems at state agencies.
Supervises the drafting of design details.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture.
Considerable knowledge of the strength and uses of construction materials.
Skill in drawing architectural plans and making presentations.
Ability to make cost and material estimates for assigned construction projects.
Ability to write specifications covering architectural and related features.
Ability to organize and coordinate moderately complex construction projects.
Ability to inspect existing structures, to recommend necessary changes and to draw plans for additions or changes.
Ability to inspect work under construction for compliance with specifications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, engineers, architects, contractors, and officials of state agencies.
