This is skilled work in major renovation and construction of buildings and other structures.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a Park Maintenance Worker III, Building Construction Worker I, or Maintenance Worker II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Two or more years of skilled experience in carpentry and one other building trade: painting, masonry, roofing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, or mechanical (refrigeration, welding, etc.); and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Special Requirements

By assignment, a position may require:

Ability to obtain the proper motor vehicle operator's license; or training, licenses, or certification required for the operation and maintenance of equipment and proper construction methods.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Serves as lead worker and directs skilled, semi-skilled, and/or unskilled workers on a variety of projects.

Assists in establishing project schedules.

Coordinates the ordering and delivery of materials and supplies.

Performs masonry work including the installation of back-up and split face concrete block, stone masonry, tuck pointing, and flashing.

Installs water and wastewater systems.

Constructs and sets forms, fabricates steel reinforcements, and pours concrete for footings, foundations, and flatwork; finishes exposed aggregate concrete.

Installs sub-flooring and flooring; constructs inner and outer walls on buildings; constructs and/or installs vanities and cabinets; installs siding, windows, and exterior doors; installs or replaces roofing; builds rafters and/or sets trusses.

Installs or renovates complete plumbing, electrical, and heating and cooling systems in buildings.

Paints buildings and other structures using sprayers, brushes, or rollers; installs paneling, wallpaper, drywall, ceramic tile, and other interior finishes.

Performs finish carpentry such as installation of millwork; constructs boardwalks, stairs, and platforms.

Performs restoration and renovation work on historic buildings and other structures.

Operates a motor vehicle; operates heavy equipment occasionally.

Exercises independence in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction; assignments may be accompanied by blueprints, penciled layouts, or sketches; work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through inspections.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of general construction and repair methods, and the proper utilization and care of tools, materials, and equipment used in building construction.

Comprehensive knowledge of traditional building materials, practices, and techniques used in the restoration and reconstruction of historic buildings and other structures.

Ability to function as lead worker and direct the work of others.

Ability to complete skilled work in carpentry and at least one other building trade: painting, masonry, roofing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, or mechanical (refrigeration, welding, etc.).

Ability to interpret and work from sketches, penciled layouts, and blueprints.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to perform manual work requiring heavy lifting, reaching, and bending.

Ability to operate a variety of hand/power tools.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
