JEFFERSON CITY - Citing continued improvement in the state’s economy, Gov. Jay Nixon today released the remaining expenditure restrictions of $132 million for the current fiscal year.
The Governor directed the Office of Administration to use the resources to continue to consolidate and improve the efficiency of state facilities.
“The Office of Administration has continued to answer Gov. Nixon’s call to identify new efficiencies that will save taxpayers even more money in the future,” said Commissioner Doug Nelson. “My office will develop plans to use these resources to maintain state facilities and continue our progress in making state government more efficient and effective.”
Since January 2009, the Missouri Office of Administration has generated five-year savings of $6.8 million for Missouri taxpayers by eliminating more than 437,000 square feet of leased space and renegotiating contracts. Over that same time, state agency energy consumption has been reduced by more than 24 percent.
The expenditure restrictions that were released today include $28.5 million to extend the life of Missouri’s State Capitol building, $12.5 million to improve State Parks for visitors in all regions of the state, $38 million to improve the efficient use of state buildings and $53 million for priority maintenance and repair projects for facilities statewide.
