This is senior-level professional work coordinating district, regional or statewide natural and/or cultural interpretive resource management functions for the Missouri Division of State Parks.
Coordinates the development and review of specialized plans for multiple state parks, and/or historic site interpretation, and/or statewide resource management programs.
Recruits, trains and evaluates interpretation staff within state park and historic site districts.
Assists in the development of interpretation standards for programs, exhibits, publications and public presentations.
Evaluates multiple state park and/or historic site interpretation programs, and individual performance of state park or historic site interpreters.
Coordinates the development and production of interpretive themes, exhibits, publications, audio-visual presentations and educational materials to support multiple state parks/historic sites.
Serves as liaison with the central office exhibit and publication production staff.
Develops and manages the budget for interpretation and resource management operations for multiple state parks/historic sites.
Conducts natural and/or cultural resource research.
Prepares reports of historic research and/or scientific findings for professional publication.
Prepares issue papers on interpretation and resource management and assists in developing policies.
Develops and manages contracts for research and services.
Presents interpretive and educational programs to state park and/or historic site visitors and at schools or other community locations; makes presentations at professional conferences and workshops.
Plans, coordinates and/or administers prescribed fire projects.
Opens and closes public facilities.
Exercises independence and significant judgment in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
One or more years of experience as an Interpretive Resource Specialist III with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
Two or more years of experience as an Interpretive Resource Specialist II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, or a closely related field; and,
Four or more years of experience in research, development and/or presentation of interpretive and educational programs in a park, historic site or museum; management of natural and/or cultural resources; researching and/or presenting information relating to artifacts or archaeological sites; teaching science or history; or comparable experience in a conservation or environmental program.
(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)
(Earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 24 earned graduate credit hours for one year.)
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Comprehensive knowledge of the policies, programs and procedures related to state park and/or historic site operations, interpretation and resource management.
Comprehensive knowledge of the natural and cultural resources of the State of Missouri.
Comprehensive knowledge of proper techniques for handling, cataloging, cleaning and preserving artifacts/specimen collections.
Comprehensive knowledge of natural and/or cultural history research and resource management methods and techniques.
Intermediate knowledge of fire behavior.
Ability to review, prepare and manage research contracts and specifications.
Ability to communicate effectively and to develop educational publications and exhibits.
Ability to prepare comprehensive reports suitable for professional publication.
Ability to conduct research in natural or cultural history, and to develop interpretive programs.
Ability to coordinate fire crews.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the employees, schools officials, community organizations and the general public.
