This is entry-level supervisory work involving the operation of laundry activities in a state facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience in a commercial or institutional laundry; and, possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Acts as an assistant to the manager in the operation of a large laundry.

Supervises a major section or several phases of the operation of a large laundry operation, or directs all phases of a small laundry operation.

Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff, and/or resident or offender workers.

Operates and maintains washers, dryers, and ironing equipment; instructs and supervises others in the safe and proper use of materials and equipment.

Maintains production records on work scheduled, in progress, and completed.

Requisitions supplies and materials required for the operation of the laundry.

Performs minor repairs and adjustments to laundry equipment; reports major faulty equipment to appropriate staff.

Ensures proper washing formulas are used.

Maintains standards of safety and sanitation in the laundry area; supervises the cleaning of work areas and equipment.

Receives general administrative direction; work is reviewed for quantity and quality of production.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of large-scale laundry equipment and methods.

Comprehensive knowledge of soaps, bleaches, softeners, starches, and stain removers, and of their proper use in laundry operations.

Comprehensive knowledge of laundering requirements of textiles and colored materials and their reaction to soaps, bleaches, water temperatures, and machine washing.

Ability to supervise and instruct staff, and/or resident or offender workers.

Ability to plan and organize work to meet production schedules.

Ability to operate laundry equipment, instruct others in its operation, and maintain safety and sanitation standards.

Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to laundry equipment.

Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.

Ability to work under conditions of high temperatures and humidity.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, residents, and/or offenders.
