Definition

This is entry-level technical work developing and maintaining identification records for the Reception and Diagnostic Centers of the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Job Duties

Fingerprints and/or palmprints all incoming offenders and ensures the data cards are complete and accurate; takes anatomical measurements and notates distinguishing characteristics such as scars, birthmarks, and tattoos; maintains offender back-up cards and related identification records.

Interviews and photographs arriving offenders to obtain and enter information necessary to the identification process; creates identification cards for each offender; checks for enemies of offenders and completes Enemy Waiver Forms and other necessary forms.

Obtains deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples from offenders using the Missouri Highway Patrol DNA collection kit.

Provides fingerprint records and photos to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Missouri Highway Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies as needed.

Assists corrections officers in reception unit with supervision of offenders.

Observes offender behavior and activities in order to prevent the exchange of contraband items, theft of materials, disorderly conduct, and violations of regulations and procedures; reports any unusual activities.

Serves as contact person for Missouri Highway Patrol Criminal Records Division and customer support for equipment functionality issues.

Exercises independence in the performance of duties under general supervision.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

One or more years of experience as a corrections officer, police officer, military police officer, private security officer, or other related correctional or law enforcement experience; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Two or more years of office experience, including one or more years of complex office experience involving the recording and filing of criminal records or related criminal identification work; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
