Definition

This is semi-skilled work in photographic duplication, involving operation and maintenance of microfilming, photocopy and related equipment.

An employee of this class is responsible for the operation and routine maintenance of photocopy, microfilm, reader-printer machines and related equipment in the reproduction of original and filmed records, forms and related material. This work can be distinguished from the lower level operation of routine copy machines by the size and complexity of the equipment operated; e.g. employees in this class may use large console equipment with integral collator and varied selection processes which fully utilize the potential of the machine. The employee may operate microfilm and reader-printer machines over a prolonged period of time, but related equipment such as inserters and readers are operated only incidentally. Work is assigned and reviewed by a supervisor; however, the employee works with considerable independence in the operation of equipment.

Job Duties

Loads film in machines as necessary, positions records, and makes adjustments necessary for the proper operation of the machines; cleans machines, changes chemicals, and makes minor repairs or assists with more difficult repairs of machines.

Operates large console machines with attached collator and a number of adjustments such as reduction in size, length of run, dimensions of paper, weight of document fed, speed of paper flow, operation of collator, and/or copying on both sides.

Selects and prepares original or filmed records for reproduction, checking for accuracy and determining that proper records have been selected; replaces records in files.

Instructs or supervises trainees in the operation and maintenance of photographic equipment and in the preparation and filing of records.

Maintains record of work performed and prepares reports.
