This is professional work examining and evaluating insurance companies to verify acceptable practices and ensure that operations are in compliance with Missouri statutes and regulations.
This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.
Identifies, examines, and evaluates insurance companies to verify acceptable standards, practices, and procedures.
Confirms that company operations are in compliance with Missouri statutes and regulations.
Participates in all phases of examinations as part of a team or independently.
Drafts major sections or entire examination reports; notes exceptions and possible violations in criticisms issued to companies.
Issues formal requests for files/data from insurance companies and analyzes information received.
Performs analysis and identifies concerning trends and recommends further investigation.
Applies proper sampling methods to acquire random credible samples for reviews.
Exercises independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties; receives general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
(The following minimum qualifications apply to applicant eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate employees for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions.) (More specific qualifications may be required for particular positions allocated to this class depending on assigned duties and responsibilities.)
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and,
Two or more years of professional insurance experience in insurance regulation, underwriting, rating, claims administration, contract development, product adjusting, enterprise risk management, insurance compliance, accounting, auditing, actuarial analysis, statistical research methods, insurance regulation or law, and/or insurance computer applications, or a closely related area.
(A combination of education from an accredited college or university, professional insurance designations, license as an attorney or actuary, and/or experience described may substitute for the stated qualifications.)
By assignment, an employee must meet and attain any designations required for accreditation or certification.

Do you possess the key skills which are considered essential for successful employment in this classification?
Intermediate knowledge of insurance examination and evaluation processes.
Intermediate knowledge of state statutes, regulations, standards, and acceptable practices.
Intermediate knowledge of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Financial Condition Examiners or Market Conduct Examiners Handbooks.
Ability to meet and attain any designations required for accreditation or certification.
Ability to prepare and present detailed examination reports and investigation findings.
Ability to analyze data, forecast trends, and identify outliers and prospective risks.
Ability to complete assignment with little or no supervision.
Ability to travel, including overnight stay.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively.
