Definition

This is professional and supervisory work directing staff in identifying, examining, and evaluating insurance companies to verify acceptable practices and ensure that operations are in compliance with Missouri statutes and regulations.

Job Duties

Supervises staff examining and evaluating insurance companies to verify acceptable standards, practices, and procedures.

Confirms that company operations are in compliance with Missouri statutes and regulations.

Assigns analysis projects and investigations to team members and determines priorities.

Carries out oversight of the analysis of examination function with little or no supervision.

Oversees multiple investigations/analysis/examination projects concurrently; directs staff so that various portions of the examination/investigation process comes together as a coherent whole.

Develops an overall plan for examination and coordinates efforts through completion, including coordinating with company personnel and other state department personnel.

Assures that staff have followed proper auditing and/or sampling methods; oversees the validation of information received.

Reviews reports and verifies the data and information developed during the course of an examination/investigation are properly and accurately represented in the report.

Oversees the preparation of data requests and the validation of data received.

Assumes full responsibility for the final completion of the report and the accuracy of its findings.

Trains new examiners and provides professional development opportunities as needed.

Handles personnel matters for all examiners in their charge; directs other examiners as appropriate.

Exercises significant independence and initiative in the performance of duties; receives general administrative direction.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(More specific qualifications may be required for particular positions allocated to this class depending on assigned duties and responsibilities.)

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and,

Two or more years of experience at the level of, or comparable to, an Examiner or equivalent professional insurance regulatory experience.

(A combination of education from an accredited college or university, professional insurance designations, license as an attorney or actuary, and/or experience described may substitute for the stated qualifications and/or special requirements.)

Special Requirements

By assignment, an employee may be required to possess designation as a Certified Insurance Examiner.

Ability to meet and attain any designations required for accreditation or certification.
