This is supervisory and specialized technical work planning, coordinating coverage, and providing certified court-reporting services for formal administrative hearings.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications apply to applicant eligibility and may also be used to evaluate employees for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions.) (More specific qualifications may be required for particular positions allocated to this class depending on the assigned duties and responsibilities.)
Current certification as a court reporter by the Missouri State Board of Certified Court Reporter Examiners; and,
Three or more years of recent experience as a certified court reporter.
By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license. Ability to maintain certification as a court reporter in accordance with the Missouri State Board of Certified Court Reporter Examiners.

Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of Court Reporters.
Plans and coordinates reporting and transcribing of formal administrative hearings.
Reviews cases and decides on proper methods of handling and processing, including reporting, transcribing, and reproducing.
Assigns Court Reporters to cover proceedings; arranges for contract reporters to cover hearings during periods of heavy workload.
Suggests changes and improvements to procedures; participates in preparation of budget information; orders and maintains equipment and supplies; and performs related office management tasks.
Takes verbatim notes of testimony in administrative proceedings using a stenotype machine and/or other reporting equipment.
Marks exhibits introduced as evidence and maintains in a secure place; incorporates exhibits into case papers.
Utilizes a computer-aided transcription system in preparation of verbatim records.
Oversees and participates in the maintenance of statistics and records concerning hearings and transcript production.
Exercises independent judgment and initiative in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of court reporting.
Comprehensive knowledge of courtroom operations and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of the Missouri Supreme Court rules related to court reporting and preparation of transcripts.
Comprehensive knowledge of office management and record-keeping procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology, medical terminology, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Intermediate knowledge of the principles of supervision and training.
Ability to take verbatim courtroom testimony with 95 percent accuracy at speeds varying between 180 and 225 words per minute.
Ability to concentrate and work under pressure for a prolonged period of time.
Ability to utilize a computer-aided transcription system.
Ability to organize work, meet schedules and deadlines, and maintain accurate files and records.
Ability to travel as necessary to cover hearings.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, judges, attorneys, and others encountered in the course of work.
