Definition

This is technical work in the preparation, operation, and maintenance of printing, copying, finishing, computer, or mail equipment, and the related duties involved in printing and/or mail operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

One or more years of experience as a Printing/Mail Technician I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

One or more years of experience which involved significant experience (50% time or more) in printing, high-volume copying, and/or mail operations as a Printing Services Assistant, Printing Services Technician I, General Office Assistant, Office Support Assistant, Laborer, Photographic Machine Operator, Mailing Equipment Operator, Computer Operator I, Motor Vehicle Driver, or Senior Office Support Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Two or more years of experience in printing and/or mail production, including the operation and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment used in database printing, or complex printing, and/or mail equipment; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(480 clock hours of training in an approved vocational training program may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri operator's license appropriate for vehicle assignment.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Completes printing, duplicating, bindery, finishing, and/or mail assignments as directed.

Prepares the appropriate piece(s) of equipment for the assigned operation(s); selects the appropriate paper; adjusts equipment properly for various sized paper, documents, and envelopes; sets up and adjusts mail meters to apply appropriate postage rates; sets up and adjusts feeders and ink supply sources to accommodate various document sizes; sets up and adjusts pressure seal equipment; prepares and removes output for distribution; maintains required records.

Operates a variety of printing, copying, and/or mailing equipment including; off-set presses, high-speed copiers, computers, scanners, mass storage equipment, collators, stitchers, folders, hole punchers, paper cutters, shrink wrap, padders, digital mail machines, multi-station inserters, meters, scales, pressure sealers, bursters, imprinters, decollators, labelers, and /or other peripheral computer printing, or mail equipment.

Obtains, loads, and unloads magnetic tapes, disks, paper and mass storage components; operates a variety of computer and peripheral equipment used in database production printing.

Transports, processes, sorts, meters, and distributes mail and/or supplies; makes scheduled and other pickups and deliveries as needed.

Cleans, lubricates, adjusts, and performs routine maintenance on equipment to keep in good working order.

Assists in training co-workers and similar personnel in the operation of printing and/or mail equipment, computers, and related equipment.

Receives general supervision in the performance of assignments for which the employee is trained and experienced; receives instruction and close supervision in acquiring new skills.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of the operation, adjustment and maintenance of printing, copying and/or mail equipment, computers, and other peripheral equipment, and the ability to keep in good working order.

Intermediate knowledge of the various types of papers, inks, chemicals, and applications used in printing and/or mail operations.

Ability to learn and remain current on U. S. Postal Service (USPS) regulations, postal rates, and mail standards.

Ability to produce and maintain the necessary operational and production records.

Ability to learn standard operating procedures of each machine as prescribed by the manufacturer.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle as needed in the performance of assignments.

Ability to lift, move, and transport supplies and/or mail.

Ability to understand and follow instructions, and to effectively and efficiently complete assignments in a timely manner.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and other employees.
