Definition

This is skilled technical work in the preparation, operation, and maintenance of complex printing, copying, finishing, computer and/or mail equipment, and the related duties involved with printing and/or mail operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a Printing/Mail Technician II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Two or more years of experience which involved significant experience (50% time or more) in printing, high-volume copying, and/or mail operations as a Printing Services Assistant, Printing Services Technician II, Office Support Assistant, Laborer, Photographic Machine Operator, Mailing Equipment Operator, Motor Vehicle Driver, Computer Operator I, or Senior Office Support Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Three or more years of experience in the operation and maintenance of offset printing equipment, computers and peripheral equipment used in database printing, high-speed copiers, finishing and/or mail equipment; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(480 clock hours of training in an approved vocational training program may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri operator's license appropriate for vehicle assignment.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Independently operates complex multi-head offset presses, high-speed copiers, web presses, multi-function collators, computers, hole punchers, folders, paper cutters, shrink wrap, digital mail machines, sorting equipment, multi-station inserters, scales, labelers, collators, decollators, pressure sealers, bursters, imprinters, and/or other peripheral equipment; may serve as a lead worker.

Completes on-line finishing functions such as stitching, trimming, inserting tabs, and other related duties.

Trains lower-level operators in the operation and maintenance of equipment.

Performs minor repairs; cleans, lubricates, and adjusts equipment; resolves operational halts and initiates corrective procedures.

Transports, processes, sorts, meters, and distributes mail and/or supplies; makes scheduled and other pickups and deliveries as needed.

Maintains necessary clerical records and prepares periodic reports.

Receives general supervision to ensure accuracy and timely completion of assignments.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of offset printing, duplicating and finishing work, electronic data processing, computer system operations, and/or mail operations.

Comprehensive knowledge of the various types of papers, inks, chemicals, and applications used in printing and/or mail operations.

Intermediate knowledge of business practices, supervision, and departmental policies and procedures.

Intermediate knowledge of U. S. Postal Service (USPS) regulations, types of mailings, rates, and mail standards.

Ability to understand the standard operating procedures of various machines as prescribed by the manufacturer, maintain equipment, and make routine repairs and adjustments.

Ability to plan and coordinate work and train co-workers in the operation and maintenance of equipment.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle as needed in the performance of assignments.

Ability to lift, move, and transport supplies and/or mail.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and other employees.
