This is mid-level technical work in the operation of computers and related equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility.  Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted.  These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

One or more years of experience as a Computer Operator I or Information Technology Operator I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Two or more years of experience in the operation of a mid-range and/or mainframe computer; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 9 earned credit hours in computer science, computer information technology, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for a maximum of two years of experience.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Performs mid-level technical duties in the operation and monitoring of a variety of computer and peripheral equipment.

Performs password resets on Windows, AS400, and safeboots.

Operates magnetic tape, data storage, disk replication, and other related devices/equipment; monitors system backups and ensures they complete without error.

Operates printing equipment and monitors print operations; cleans, lubricates, adjusts, and performs routine maintenance on equipment.

Operates computer during routine production or conversion runs; performs operations according to schedule and program instructions.

Reviews job control language (JCL); modifies parameters; edits datasets if required; checks condition codes and run totals; and codes overrides and reruns.

Receives help desk calls during off hours and resolves routine issues and/or refers to appropriate staff for resolution.

Schedules production jobs through the production control scheduling software; sets job triggers, predecessors, successors, and requirements within a schedule; reviews and modifies schedules to ensure optimum performance.

Monitors systems, jobs processing, networks, and hardware; analyzes abends and takes corrective actions.

Maintains accurate records and documentation of job runs.

Assists and consults with peers and/or senior-level staff to resolve non-standard and mid-level computer issues.

Assists in providing guidance and training to entry-level operators.

Assists with monitoring environmental conditions and physical security of data center.

Receives general supervision from a designated technical staff member or supervisor who reviews work for adherence to schedules and established quality standards.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Introductory knowledge of computer information technology principles and techniques.

Intermediate knowledge of the operation, care, and adjustment of computer peripheral equipment.
