Definition

This is specialized technical work in the application of established accounting procedures.

Job Duties

Performs technical accounting functions related to the processing of financial data.

Examines and verifies invoices for accuracy; researches, processes, records, and/or approves adjustments, refunds, expenditures, and/or disbursements; and investigates discrepancies, recommends and/or takes appropriate corrective action within established guidelines.

Monitors and/or maintains accounting records including ledgers, journals, registers and fund balances; advises supervisor of issues and errors.

Compiles and prepares routine reports to assist in the analysis and presentation of financial statements, reports, and data.

Assembles data to assist with the processing of garnishments, withholdings, and interrogatory responses.

Assists with the preparation of financial data and reports used in the budget process.

Assists with the drawdown of funds; reviews contract/grant expenditures; and refers discrepancies to supervisor.

Provides general guidance and/or supervision to clerical staff in the preparation and maintenance of financial data and related documents.

Exercises judgment and discretion; departures from established policies and procedures are reviewed by an administrative supervisor.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as an Accounting Clerk with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Two or more years of business or governmental accounting experience (at or above the level of Accounting Clerk) including the processing of financial data; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(30 earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes three earned credit hours in Accounting may substitute for one year of the required experience.)

(60 earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes six earned credit hours in Accounting may substitute for the required experience.)
