This is entry-level public contact work providing assistance and general information at a tourist Welcome Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility.  Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted.  These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

One or more years of experience in public contact work; and a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)

(30 earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience.)

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Maintains attractive travel information displays; disseminates literature on points of interest in the State of Missouri.

Provides official road maps and other tourist publications; assists with planning itineraries for tourists.

Maintains records and reports pertaining to site visitation.

Represents the State of Missouri at trade shows, conferences, and related events.

Assists in maintaining brochure racks.

Receives general administrative direction; works under close supervision following detailed instructions through the probationary period.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Introductory knowledge of travel and tourist attractions within the State of Missouri.

Introductory knowledge in the use of maps, mileage charts, and related materials.

Introductory knowledge of Missouri history, historical events, and places of interest.

Ability to courteously and enthusiastically greet the general public.

Ability to speak clearly when answering inquiries and providing information regarding the State of Missouri.

Ability to prepare and maintain records, routine reports, and correspondence.

Ability to use a computer to complete reports.
