This is entry-level professional interpretive work in an assigned state park or historic site with special habitat management areas, and/or historic structures and cultural resources.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Two or more years of experience as an Interpretive Resource Technician with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System .
OR
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, or a closely related field.
OR
Four or more years of experience in interpretation work, including presenting tours and educational programs; conducting interpretive hikes or walks; using audio-visual equipment and/or presenting museum gallery programs at a park, historic site, or museum; researching and/or presenting information relating to artifacts or archaeological sites; teaching science or history; or comparable experience in a conservation or environmental program; and, possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, or a closely related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Participates in planning and directing natural and/or cultural history interpretation, resource management, and research in an assigned state park or historic site.
Presents interpretive and educational programs to state park and/or historic site visitors and/or at schools or other community locations; conducts state park or historic site visitor group activities.
Researches and develops natural and cultural resource lectures, exhibits, interpretive and educational programs, audio-visual programs and publications.
Assists with recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating seasonal and volunteer interpretation staff.
Participates on natural and/or cultural resource management project crews.
Participates in accessioning and cataloging artifacts and specimen collections.
Monitors and samples resources; collects statistical and survey data.
Assists in developing periodic statistical reports which provide analysis of resource monitoring; prepares reports of issues and incidents.
Provides state park or historic site visitors with information concerning facilities and regulations.
Assists in the maintenance of a state park or historic site.
Opens and closes public facilities.
Receives general administrative direction which outlines general plans and procedures; work is reviewed for overall quality and effectiveness.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Introductory knowledge of the natural and cultural resources of the assigned state park and/or historic site, and the State of Missouri.
Introductory knowledge of the policies, programs and procedures related to state park and/or historic site operations.
Introductory knowledge of natural and/or cultural history research and resource management methods and techniques.
Introductory knowledge of historic structure construction and repair methods, and the proper utilization and care of equipment used in interpretive operations and/or resource management.
Introductory knowledge of the proper techniques for handling, cataloging, cleaning and preserving natural history objects and/or historic and archaeological artifacts.
Ability to prepare and present information about the natural and cultural history of state parks and/or historic sites, and to develop related exhibits.
Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports, and to secure and analyze facts.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and use hand or power tools.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, school officials, community organizations and the general public.
