This is mid-level custodial work involving lead worker responsibility for a small number of workers in a variety of cleaning tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a Custodial Worker I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Two or more years of experience in janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or closely related work in an institution or public or private building.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Assigns members of the work crew with tasks involving the cleaning of rooms, halls, restrooms, wards, laboratories, and offices in an institution, public building, or state park.

Participates and leads a work crew in manual cleaning tasks required to maintain clean and sanitary conditions.

Assists supervisor in the training of new employees and residents in proper custodial procedures, and demonstrates new cleaning methods.

Operates various powered equipment in the performance of duties.

Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies and materials; notifies supervisor when additional supplies and materials are needed.

Notifies supervisor of needed building repairs; performs non-skilled maintenance to area and equipment.

Exercises independence in the performance of responsibilities; receives general supervision; work is reviewed through general inspection and observation.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Introductory knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in institutional housekeeping.

Introductory knowledge of the operation and proper care of housekeeping equipment.

Introductory knowledge of cleaning compounds, insect/vermin control solutions, and their chemical effect on surfaces, materials, and textiles.

Ability to assist in instructing and training employees in proper custodial methods and procedures.

Ability and willingness to lead and perform custodial work.

Ability to maintain records and complete reports.

Ability to understand, relay, and follow instructions.

Ability to perform a variety of routine manual tasks requiring the exertion of physical strength in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of a building and equipment.
