Definition

This is mid-level supervisory work planning and directing the total housekeeping function in a moderate-size state institution, or assisting in the direction of the housekeeping function in a large state institution or building complex.

Job Duties

Plans, directs, and supervises the total housekeeping function (in a moderate-sized state institution, or assists in a large state institution or building complex).

Assists the Housekeeper II in planning and directing housekeeping functions, including interior decorating and insect/vermin control.

Supervises, through subordinates, work crews assigned to large areas of the institution.

Inspects buildings for cleanliness and for violations of fire regulations.

Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to supplies, equipment, and personnel.

Supervises the maintenance of supply inventories and the requisition of supplies.

Supervises contracted janitorial services including scheduling assignments and monitoring the quality of work performed.

Supervises and participates in the instruction of employees and residents; demonstrates new and improved methods, procedures, and techniques used for the improvement of housekeeping functions.

Prepares maintenance requisitions for needed repairs.

Participates in preparing housekeeping budget recommendations.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of institutional, hotel or comparable commercial housekeeping experience; including one or more years as a Custodial Work Supervisor or in a comparable position.

Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in institutional housekeeping operations.

Intermediate knowledge of the operation and care of housekeeping equipment.

Intermediate knowledge of cleaning compounds, insect/vermin control solutions, and their chemical effects on surfaces, materials, and textiles.

Intermediate knowledge of the requirements and standards for housekeeping and fire safety established by regulatory agencies.

Intermediate knowledge of the procedures for the requisition and maintenance of supply inventories, and the preparation of reports and maintenance of records pertaining to supplies, equipment, and personnel.

Ability to train, supervise, plan, and coordinate the work of employees.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional, administrative, and maintenance personnel, other employees, and the general public.
