This is guard and patrol work in securing and protecting public property and equipment against loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism, or other causes, and maintaining order and proper behavior of individuals and groups for a state facility.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
One or more years of work experience; and, possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
(30 earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for the stated experience.)
(Training from an accredited technical or military school may substitute at a rate of 30 earned credit hours, or 480 clock hours, for the stated experience.)
By assignment, successful completion of a physical agility test administered by the hiring agency may be required prior to employment.
By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Provides for the security and protection of property in a state office building or other public facility on an assigned shift.
Checks and makes identification of persons entering the property.
Conducts regular rounds throughout buildings and/or grounds; observes for intruders, fires, or other danger that could lead to loss or damage to property; and prepares associated reports.
Participates in maintaining order and proper behavior of individuals and groups on public property; responds to questions from the public.
Directs and controls traffic at parking lots of public buildings/facilities; installs traffic blocks around emergency areas.
Enforces facility rules in buildings and/or grounds; immediately reports disturbances or unusual situations which cannot be resolved to a supervisor and/or designee as instructed.
Monitors utilities for proper operation and ensures doors and gates are properly locked and opened only for authorized personnel.
Instructs new employees in the operation of fire protection equipment; ensures that equipment remains in acceptable working condition.
Transports staff, clients, and/or suspects as needed.
Receives close supervision from a higher-level Security Officer or other designated staff.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Introductory knowledge of the buildings and grounds patrolled, and rules and regulations pertaining to facility security requirements.
Introductory knowledge of entry-control operations.
Ability to follow a prescribed routine in making rounds to monitor assigned buildings and/or grounds.
Ability to walk for long periods of time, both indoors and outdoors under varying work and climatic conditions.
Ability to restrain and/or subdue intruders and other suspects.
Ability to prepare detailed reports.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to be firm but tactful when required.
Ability to interact with the public, respond to questions, and furnish appropriate information.
