Definition

This is entry-level technical work assisting a teacher in a classroom setting and may involve assisting with group or individual instruction under close professional supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

30 or more earned credit hours from an accredited college or university.

OR

Six or more months of experience in group work with children, adolescents, or adults in a classroom setting, playgrounds, summer camps, or institutions; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Assists in the preparation of educational and teaching materials.

Obtains and prepares educational equipment and/or machines as required.

Corrects completed work of students.

Prepares behavioral/participation notes and records of achievement; compiles reports and other information.

Maintains inventory of educational materials, supplies, equipment, and library books; obtains replacements as required.

Prepares attendance records and checks on tardy or absentee students.

Assists teachers in classroom work and may be assigned responsibility for specific sessions of instruction of students as a training function under close supervision.

Receives close supervision from a professional teacher or Education Assistant II.

Performs other related work as assigned.
