This is entry-level professional chemical analysis work in a State of Missouri laboratory.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 20 earned credit hours in Chemistry.

Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis to detect and verify composition and possible contaminants in environmental and/or agricultural samples within well established procedures.
Determines properties of substances (elements, compounds, mixtures, etc.) in water, wastewater, soil, air, drinking water supplies, and/or other media.
Assists in preparing written reports detailing the results of analysis and studies, and daily documentation of calibration checks.
Utilizes a laboratory information management system to generate work lists, monitor work flow, track quality assurance/quality control, and enter analytical results.
Applies gravimetric, colorimetric, and wet chemistry methods to accomplish quantitative analysis of samples.
Analyzes samples for the presence and concentration of pesticides, herbicides, metals, and other pollutants using chromatography, Inductively Coupled Plasma/Optical Emission Spectrometer, atomic absorption, and/or spectrometry techniques.
Assists with routine instrument maintenance according to manufacturers’ instructions.
Participates in the annual review of standard operating procedures for methods that are routinely used.
Adheres to quality control procedures; documents validity and quality of all sample test results.
Receives close supervision until protocols and procedures are learned; work is reviewed for technical accuracy and adherence to established procedures.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Introductory knowledge of the principles and practices of organic and/or inorganic chemistry.
Introductory knowledge of principles and procedures used in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Introductory knowledge of basic laboratory testing procedures and equipment.
Introductory knowledge of the principles of chromatography and spectrometry.
Ability to perform chemical analysis and interpret test results.
Ability to operate equipment in a chemical laboratory.
Ability to prepare laboratory activity reports.
Ability to perceive color.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff, and the public.
