This is entry-level engineering work related to alternative, renewable, and fossil energy sources, and the technologies and techniques of energy efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, with the curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) in one of the following fields: Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental, Mining, Nuclear, Petroleum, Industrial, Engineering Management, or other energy-related engineering disciplines.

(A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering program in one of the qualifying fields not accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) requires one of the following: proof of acceptance for the Engineer-In-Training examination by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects; proof of Engineer-In-Training registration with a state board; or proof of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.)

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Promotes energy efficiency and the use of alternative and renewable energy sources to other agencies, businesses, organizations, and the general public.

Assists with monitoring budgets, grants/subgrants, compliance, and project progress; provides preliminary energy saving and cost projections.

Assists staff with the review of proposed energy-related projects and the management of approved projects.

Participates in energy audits to calculate energy savings and consumption; conducts simple energy assessments.

Provides information to staff, agencies, businesses, organizations, and the general public on energy technologies, techniques, materials, and equipment.

Assists with the review of loan and grant applications relating to energy consumption and cost reductions; provides a preliminary engineering-based analysis discerning the energy efficiency of proposals and associated savings.

Participates in seminars and workshops that promote energy efficiency, alternative and/or renewable energy options, and assistance available through federal, state, and private sources.

Researches and collects data concerning alternative, renewable, and fossil energy technologies, and energy efficiency initiatives.

Assists in the review and evaluation of new energy technologies.

Work is performed under close direction of a designated supervisor.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.

Introductory knowledge of building engineering as it relates to mechanical, electrical, and energy components.

Introductory knowledge of the principles of project management.

Introductory knowledge of alternative, renewable, and fossil energy sources, and energy efficiency methods, technologies, techniques, equipment, and materials.

Introductory knowledge of energy audit procedures.

Ability to perform engineering calculations and measure energy and cost savings.

Ability to analyze problems and present findings.

Ability to apply federal and state guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, businesses, organizations, and the general public.
