This is civil engineering work in the application of dam and reservoir safety technology.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mining, or Geological Engineering from an accredited college or university with a curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET); and,
Two or more years of engineering experience.
(24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute for one year of the required experience.)
(A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute for the required experience.)
Possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate.

Participates with a licensed professional engineer in geotechnical, hydrologic, structural, and/or geological engineering reviews of dam/reservoir plans and specifications for new construction, repairs, alteration, enlargement, reduction, or removal.
Inspects dams with guidance from a licensed professional engineer to insure compliance with laws, regulations, and requirements.
Confers with government officials, engineers, contractors, owners, and operators of dams regarding laws, regulations, and requirements.
Prepares or directs the preparation of charts, tables, and maps for the interpretation of engineering data; prepares reports of findings and analyses for review by a licensed professional engineer.
Prepares papers and lectures on subjects relating to dams and reservoirs.
Uses surveying instruments to do reconnaissance surveys of dams and appurtenances.
Updates records on the status of construction, safety, and registration permits for dams.
Participates in special investigations and responses to unsafe dams in imminent danger of failure.
Exercises independence, judgment, and initiative; work is reviewed by a licensed professional engineer through conferences, reports, and achieved results.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Intermediate knowledge of the engineering principles and practices applied in the planning, location, design, construction, and operation of dams, reservoirs, and other water control structures.
Intermediate knowledge of hydrology, geology, and geotechnical principles and practices to include use of slope stability, Hydraulic Engineering Center (HEC) 1, and HEC 2 computer programs.
Ability to prepare, interpret, and utilize civil engineering plans, maps, specifications, and reports.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, consultants, government officials, and the general public.
