This is senior-level professional geologic work.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Three or more years of experience as a Geologist II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System and registration as a Geologist in the State of Missouri .
OR
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Geology, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field; and,
Five or more years of professional geological experience including two or more years of diversified experience and registration as a Geologist in the State of Missouri .
(Earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience at a rate of 24 earned graduate credit hours for one year of experience.)

Plans, organizes, and directs projects and activities in environmental geology, mineral and groundwater resources, subsurface geology, oil and gas, water resources, aerial geology and stratigraphy, geochemistry, geologic hazards, or other related work.
Responds to inquiries pertaining to one or more specific aspects of the surface and subsurface geology of the state, its mineral and water resources, engineering geologic conditions, and complex environmental questions.
Prepares grants and monitors and tracks budget-related issues.
Directs and/or conducts studies and investigations regarding a wide variety of geologic related issues; prepares reports, maps, graphs, and tables on the findings and results of geologic investigations and special studies; reviews reports prepared by others; may serve as principal investigator with predominant technical responsibility.
Assists in mineral resource development through regional mineral resource studies.
Develops, prepares, and presents training sessions and reports to professional organizations and the public on topics such as stratigraphy, engineering geology, geologic environmental protection, groundwater, mineral resources, and geochemistry.
Provides expert testimony at legal proceedings and public hearings.
Assists with coordinating specialized and complex geologic projects with other state, federal, local agencies, and educational institutions.
Represents the division and/or department on committees, commissions, boards, public hearings, enforcement proceedings, and meetings.
Receives general administrative direction; exercises considerable independence in judgment; may supervise professional, technical, and support staff.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Comprehensive knowledge of current principles and practices of geology as applied to groundwater resources, mineral resources, engineering geology, environmental geology, geographic information system development, and other related projects.
Comprehensive knowledge of the methods and equipment used in various aspects of geologic work.
Ability to conduct field and/or laboratory investigations and apply geologic principles and techniques during investigations to resolve difficult and/or complex research problems.
Ability to prepare, evaluate, and direct the preparation and completion of scientific or technical reports within specified time frames.
Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of professional, technical, and/or support staff.
Ability to travel in the performance of assigned duties.
Ability to communicate effectively and prepare clear and concise reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, staff, associates, government and industrial officials, professional organizations and groups, and the general public.
