This is senior-level professional land survey work locating the corners and lines of the United States Public Land Survey System (USPLSS) subdivisions, and maintaining the Missouri Geographic Reference System (MoGRS).

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

 (The following minimum qualifications will determine eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a licensed professional Land Surveyor; and, registration as a Land Surveyor with the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects.

Special Requirements

By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Conducts and directs land surveys to determine the location of boundaries based upon legal descriptions.

Selects, trains, directs, and evaluates land surveyors and technical land survey staff performing corner restoration, and cadastral and geodetic survey projects.

Designs and conducts land and geodetic surveying workshops and seminars for surveying, engineering, legal, and real estate professions, and other land survey user groups.

Directs and reviews the design of survey networks for land survey control; verifies accuracy and ensures that proper standards are met.

Directs and reviews the execution of contracts with professional land surveyors in the private sector for the location of land boundaries, remonumentation of land corners, and execution of geodetic and Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys.

Directs and conducts field procedures to preserve existing horizontal and vertical control monuments.

Plans, conducts, and computes adjustment of first and second order horizontal and vertical control surveys.

Directs and conducts surveys to determine heights of points above the North American Vertical Datum.

Directs and conducts surveys to restore and remonument corners of the original USPLSS.

Directs and conducts conventional and GPS surveys to determine the state plane coordinates of control stations.

Directs and reviews the work of land surveyors and provides technical oversight to ensure compliance with agency standards for land surveys, corner registration, and geodetic surveys.

Provides technical training and continuing education to land surveyors, other agencies, and the private sector.

Presents public information programs to interested groups and the general public on land survey history, land surveying, and services provided by the Land Survey Program.

Works under the general supervision of an administrative supervisor.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state laws, and principles and practices of cadastral and geodetic surveying.

Comprehensive knowledge of modern survey methods, instruments, and technology, such as total stations, GPS, and data collectors.

Comprehensive knowledge of data processing capabilities for land survey work.

Ability to train, direct, and supervise land surveyors, other professionals, and/or survey technical assistants in appropriate land survey techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, agency representatives, contractors, and the public.

Ability to communicate effectively and prepare clear and concise reports.

Ability to travel throughout the state in the performance of assigned duties.
