This is entry-level technical work in capturing, storing, manipulating, documenting, distributing, and displaying geographically referenced information from a variety of sources.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility.  Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted.  These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

An Associate degree or 60 or more earned credit hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 12 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Cartography, Earth Science, Natural Resources, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a closely related field.

(Experience in geographic information systems work may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Assists in capturing, storing, manipulating, documenting, distributing, and displaying geographically referenced information.

Assists in using utility and data conversion software, digitizing tablets, computer screen digitizing, or other methods for capturing data.

Assists in manipulating data which may include quality assurance, creation, and maintenance of spatial data topology and attributes, format manipulation, geo-referencing, and datum and projection transformations.

Compiles, attributes, edits, and maintains data in geographic and operational databases.

Receives training in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) and related utility software, data dictionaries, metadata, and other related components of data creation, manipulation, and documentation.

Responds to basic questions from GIS users; refers more complex problems to supervisor or other designated contacts.

Uses queries and GIS applications to generate reports and maps, and to ensure and enhance data quality.

Reviews data and data processing procedures to ensure adherence to standards, policies, and other guidelines.

Participates in meetings, training seminars, and GIS user groups.

Receives detailed directions; work is completed with close supervision.

Performs other related work as assigned.
