This is skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
OR
An Associate's degree or certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (may be as a part of a program in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) from an accredited post-secondary, two-year vocational, or technical school followed by;
Two or more years of experience in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.
OR
Five or more years of experience in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Inspects, operates, repairs, and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems.
Makes routine checks, adjustments, and calibrations of water treatment equipment, strainers, temperature control valves, pressure gauges, filters, automatic control panels, and other related refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Installs, repairs, and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning equipment such as central air conditioning systems, circulating pumps, refrigerators, walk-in coolers, water coolers, window air conditioners, fan coil units, ice makers, and cooling towers.
Tests for water treatment in cooling systems and adds chemicals.
Installs small refrigeration and air conditioning equipment such as window units, water coolers, refrigerators, and ice makers.
Prepares sketches and does general layout work.
Installs plumbing and electrical work related to refrigeration equipment; assists contracting companies in the installation and maintenance of larger units.
Supervises and directs the work of semi-skilled staff, when assigned.
Orders replacement parts and equipment; maintains work records.
Completes assignments with minimal technical supervision; work is inspected in progress and upon completion.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Intermediate knowledge of the standard practices, methods, and tools involved in the operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and systems.
Intermediate knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Intermediate knowledge of theories and principles of refrigeration, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
Intermediate knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and sheet metal trades as they relate to refrigeration work.
Ability to detect and diagnose faulty operations in various kinds of refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
Ability to perform a variety of skilled refrigeration and air conditioning tasks.
Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders.
Ability to make estimates of time and materials required to complete work orders.
