This is supervisory work directing the construction, renovation, or major remodeling of buildings and other structures.
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
Two or more years of experience as a Building Construction Worker II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
OR
Four or more years of skilled experience in carpentry and one other building (painting, masonry, roofing, drywall, etc.), electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, or mechanical (refrigeration, welding, etc.) trade; including two or more years in a supervisory capacity involving responsibility for directing the major construction activities of skilled workers in the building, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and mechanical trades; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
By assignment, a position may require:
Ability to obtain the proper motor vehicle operator's license; or other training, licenses, or certification required for the operation and maintenance of equipment and proper construction methods.

Directs new construction projects, including residences, dining halls, public restrooms and showers, general office buildings, warehouses, and other structures.
Directs the major remodeling of buildings, including installing and repairing electrical equipment and wiring, plumbing, constructing new walls and roofs, and other major renovations.
Directs the construction of boardwalks, bridges, platforms, boat docks, parking lots, fences, and terrace steps.
Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers; monitors and evaluates employee performance and follows established personnel management policies.
Supervises major restoration of historic structures requiring sensitivity to historic construction methods and architecture.
Requisitions and inspects materials needed for completing a project.
Negotiates with private businesses in contracting for materials, goods, and services; coordinates delivery to job site.
Participates in construction work that may involve carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electricity, pipe fitting, heating and cooling, and other skilled trades.
Schedules and conducts safety training for skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Exercises considerable independence in the performance of responsibilities; directs building construction projects from construction documents; work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Comprehensive knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, machinery, tools, and equipment used in construction work.
Comprehensive knowledge of the crafts and trades employed in the construction industry.
Comprehensive knowledge of traditional building materials, practices, and techniques used in the restoration and reconstruction of historic buildings and other structures.
Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions to be taken in various building trades.
Ability to direct construction from construction documents.
Ability to lay out, assign, supervise, and coordinate the work of skilled workers in the building trades.
Ability to do skilled work in at least two of the mechanical, electrical, heating and cooling, and building trades.
Ability to communicate effectively and carry out instructions.
Ability to perform manual work requiring heavy lifting, reaching, and bending.
