Definition

This is skilled carpentry and supervisory work in assigning, directing, and evaluating the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers in all phases of carpentry work.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a Carpenter with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the carpentry trade; and,

Two or more years of experience as a skilled carpenter; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Five or more years of on-the-job training in the carpentry trade; and,

Two or more years of experience as a skilled carpenter; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Directs, supervises, and participates in skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, and locksmith work in the fabrication, alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, scaffolds, wood fixtures, furniture, and cabinets.

Processes work orders, determines work methods, sketches work plans and blueprints, and estimates time and materials needed for completion.

Maintains inventory and requisitions lumber, hardware, supplies, and tools.

Keeps records of time and materials used and prepares reports.

Reviews work in progress and completed to ensure that work is performed according to instructions.

Assigns work and instructs skilled and semi-skilled workers in the methods, practices, materials, and tools of the carpentry trade.

Confers with other staff to discuss the carpentry needs of the facility.

Receives assignments through orders that may be accompanied by plans and/or blueprints; completed work reviewed for compliance with directions or plans and specifications.

Receives supervision from designated supervisor.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the carpentry trade.

Ability to perform and instruct others in a variety of skilled carpentry work.

Ability to layout, assign, and supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers.

Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials required for completion of a work order.

Ability to read, interpret, prepare, and work from plans, drawings, and sketches.

Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
