Definition

This is mid-level skilled work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

 (The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the electrician trade; and, possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Five or more years of on-the-job training in the electrician trade; and, possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs wiring systems, equipment, and fixtures such as switches, outlets, light fixtures, exhaust and circulation fans.

Installs and makes minor electrical repairs on specialized electrical equipment such as refrigeration units, dishwashers, water heaters, and kitchen appliances.

Installs and maintains electrical motors and generators, seats and replaces brushes, oils and cleans motors, and does other electrical and limited mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts.

Estimates time and materials required to complete a work order; requisitions materials as necessary.

Directs the work of assigned semi-skilled and unskilled workers; makes assignments; reviews work in progress and upon completion.

Determines work methods and proceeds with little technical supervision; receives assignments via work order which may be accompanied by plans and sketches.

Receives general supervision through inspection of work for compliance with directions, plans, and/or specifications.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrician trade.

Intermediate knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrician trade.

Ability to perform a variety of skilled electrical work.

Ability to instruct and direct the work of semi-skilled and unskilled workers.

Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and specifications, and to understand and carry out instructions.

Ability to prepare estimates of time and materials required to complete a job.
