This is licensed barber work in a state facility barber establishment.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Possession of a current license to practice as a Barber in the State of Missouri.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Manages a state-operated barber establishment; ensures that establishment is clean and organized.

Trims, cuts, and shaves hair and beards of facility clients.

Sterilizes, sharpens, and maintains barber tools and equipment.

Schedules, trains, and supervises assistants performing barber activities.

Monitors inventory to ensure there are adequate supplies in stock; orders supplies and equipment as needed.

Prepares and maintains records and reports of services provided and supplies used.

Performs work under general administrative direction.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of the operation and care of barbering razors, scissors, clippers, and sharpening devices.

Intermediate knowledge of the techniques and procedures used in giving haircuts and shaves.

Introductory knowledge of the current methods of tool and equipment sterilization.

Introductory knowledge of potential safety hazards and appropriate safety precautions involved in barber activities.

Ability to apply adequate safety precautions in the operation of a barber establishment.

Ability to perform a large volume of work on an assigned schedule.

Ability to provide services to clients with mental illness and/or developmental or physical disabilities.

Ability to supervise and train assistants in barber activities.

Ability to work long hours while standing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and management.
