This is licensed cosmetology work in a state facility cosmetology establishment.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Possession of a current license to practice as a Cosmetologist in the State of Missouri.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Manages a state-operated cosmetology establishment; ensures that establishment is clean and organized.

Provides hair care services to facility clients including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, coloring, styling, providing scalp treatments, and applying chemical solutions.

Sterilizes, sharpens, and maintains cosmetology tools and equipment.

Schedules, trains, and supervises assistants performing cosmetology activities.

Schedules cosmetology appointments for clients.

Monitors inventory to ensure there are adequate supplies in stock; orders supplies and equipment as needed.

Consults with clients or other responsible persons regarding appropriate hair and scalp care methods, and products for use by individual clients.

Prepares and maintains records and reports of services provided and supplies used.

Performs work under general administrative direction.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of current cosmetology techniques and procedures.

Intermediate knowledge of the proper selection and application of hair and scalp care products.

Introductory knowledge of the current methods of tool and equipment sterilization.

Introductory knowledge of potential safety hazards and appropriate safety precautions involved in cosmetology activities.

Ability to operate and maintain hair care equipment such as clippers, scissors, dryers, brushes, and sterilizers.

Ability to provide services to clients with mental illness and/or developmental or physical disabilities.

Ability to supervise and train assistants in cosmetology activities.

Ability to perform a large volume of work on an assigned schedule.

Ability to work long hours while standing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and management.
