Definition

This is supervisory and skilled work in the design, layout, production, and distribution of signs used in the state park system.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following minimum qualifications will determine merit system eligibility and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

Two or more years of experience as a Sign Maker I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency, and a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

OR

Three or more years of skilled experience in woodworking, carpentry, or silk-screening; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency, and a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Manages the operation of the central sign shop, including records maintenance, budgeting, monitoring safety hazards, and supervising staff.

Supervises and participates in the design, layout, and production of signs, utilizing a variety of techniques, materials, computer software, and computer driven technology for use in the state park system.

Negotiates with private businesses in contracting for materials, goods, and services.

Requisitions and maintains inventory of necessary materials and equipment.

Prepares and maintains sign records and reports.

Inspects finished signs to ascertain that prescribed standards have been met; supervises the packaging and shipping of signs to destinations in the park system.

Designs and generates sign plans.

Keeps up-to-date with current trends and techniques in sign making, computer software, and materials through catalogs and sign magazines.

Receives general supervision; work is reviewed through on-site inspections, conferences, and reports.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Comprehensive knowledge of the tools, materials, and processes used in sign making, such as woodworking, carpentry, painting, and silk-screening.

Comprehensive knowledge and skill in the use of power and hand tools and silk-screening equipment.

Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in sign making processes.

Intermediate knowledge of computer software and computer driven technology.

Ability to estimate material and equipment necessary for sign production jobs.

Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of lower-level employees.

Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to keep records and make reports.

Ability to lift, move, and stack heavy objects.
