This is entry-level public contact and field work involving the sale and promotion of Missouri Lottery products to retail establishments within an assigned geographic territory

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statement; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may also be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in Marketing, Business Administration, or a closely related field. 

(Experience in commercial sales, persuasive sales, business management, or a closely related area may substitute a year-for-year basis for the stated college education.)

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain a valid motor vehicle operator's license within the timeframe established by the Missouri Lottery Commission.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Travels to contact retail establishments within an assigned geographic territory to sell and promote Lottery products.

Receives training on all products offered by the Missouri Lottery and best practices for effectively promoting the sale of these products and optimizing Lottery presence at the retail level.

Establishes and maintains effective relationships with retailers to promote the sale of Missouri Lottery products. 

Schedules routine visits to retailers based on sales volume, equipment used, product mix, and geography.

Utilizes field software to analyze sales and identify trends in the market and individual retail locations.

Identifies and recruits retailers to participate in the sale of Lottery products; identifies and follows up on leads for prospective retail accounts; evaluates location, customer activity, and related variables.

Provides information, assistance, and training to retailers regarding Lottery policies and procedures relating to new and existing products, incentive programs, billing schedules, licensing, and bond renewals.

Negotiates with retailers regarding expansion of Lottery product lines, optimizing game mix, and placement of merchandising materials and equipment.

Assists retailers in the development and implementation of individualized on-site promotions.

Trains retailers and their staff on the use of the various types of equipment associated with the sale and redemption of Lottery products.

Visits retailers to service established accounts; delivers supplies, and troubleshoots equipment.

Plans and schedules work activities to achieve established sales and marketing goals.

Participates in sales meetings, training programs, and seminars.

Ensures that assigned vehicle is maintained and stocked with necessary supplies.

Prepares and submits activity reports.

Exercises significant independence, judgement, and initiative under general administrative direction; work is reviewed for conformance to established policies and procedures.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of policies, procedures, and operations of the Missouri Lottery Commission.

Intermediate knowledge of statutes and regulations applicable to the sales/redemption of Lottery products.

Intermediate knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.

Intermediate knowledge of the Lottery ordering system software.

Ability to effectively use a tablet, computer, smart phone, or any prescribed electronic devices.

Ability to explain and present a positive image of Lottery products and promotions.

Ability to provide training and assistance to retailers and their employees.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with retailers, co-workers, and the general public.

Ability to travel extensively in the performance of assigned duties.

Ability to organize time, work activities, and travel schedules to achieve established goals and objectives.

Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Ability to load/unload supplies and boxes into/out of a Lottery vehicle.
