Definition

This is responsible supervisory or advanced public contact work coordinating the sale and promotion of Missouri Lottery products, or comparable sales support work.

An employee in this class either supervises the sales and marketing activities of subordinate field staff responsible for servicing retail accounts; independently performs advanced sales and marketing work in the recruitment and maintenance of corporate accounts; or coordinates a variety of functions to support statewide sales and marketing projects. Work involves developing and implementing marketing and promotional plans; providing information and assistance to corporate executives and/or retailers; and monitoring and reporting on progress toward the attainment of sales and marketing goals. General supervision is received from a designated administrative superior; however, the employee is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

 

Job Duties

Supervises, trains and evaluates subordinate field sales staff responsible for servicing retail accounts; reviews and approves staff work plans and promotional proposals; periodically accompanies staff on retailer visits.

Recruits and maintains corporate accounts; identifies and follows up on leads for prospective corporate accounts; contacts corporate executives and visits retail locations; negotiates expansion of Lottery product lines and placement of merchandising materials and equipment.

Coordinates a variety of functions to support statewide sales and marketing projects; develops manuals, monitors budgets, prepares reports, plans conferences, disseminates information, etc.

Develops and implements marketing and promotional plans to maximize the sale of Lottery products within assigned area of responsibility.

Makes presentations to corporate executives and/or retailer associations to provide information and promote participation in the sale of Lottery products.

Provides administrative support and advice to management on policies, procedures and issues relating to the sale and promotion of Lottery products.

Provides training and assistance to corporate executives, retailers and/or their employees regarding Lottery policies and procedures relating to new and existing products, incentive programs, billing schedules, licensing, bond renewals, etc.

Responds to retailer inquiries and resolves problems concerning Lottery products and services.

Reviews reports in order to monitor progress toward the attainment of sales and marketing goals.

Plans and schedules work activities to achieve established sales and marketing goals.

Participates in sales meetings, training programs and seminars.

Prepares and submits activity reports.

Performs other related work as assigned.

(The following entrance requirements are used to admit or reject applicants for merit system examinations, or may be used to evaluate applicants for employment in positions not requiring selection from merit system registers. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for deficiencies in experience or education.)

Two years of experience as a Lottery Sales Representative with the Missouri Lottery Commission.

OR

Three years of experience in commercial sales, persuasive sales, business management or a closely related area; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in marketing, business administration or a closely related area. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated education.)

 

 

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license within the timeframes established by the Missouri Lottery Commission.
