This is entry-level professional work in public safety grants management or compliance program.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

 A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 

(A combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience in auditing, grant administration, compliance review, and/or in an area that affords a knowledge of public safety programs and services may substitute for the stated qualifications.)

Special Requirements

By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Receives formal and/or on-the-job training in grant administration, and/or program review techniques, and the rules and regulations of the assigned public safety program.

Reviews grant applications from governmental, public, and private entities; participates in the rating and eligibility determination process in accordance with program guidelines.

Examines various documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program rules, regulations, statutes, policies, and procedures.

Ensures participant (or licensee) compliance with public safety program continuing education requirements; enters information into database.

Conducts programmatic audits and on-site visits of training providers; and provides compliance determinations following visits and offers recommendations to ensure future compliance.

Monitors and tracks progress of grant projects in an assigned public safety program; maintains regular contact with project administrators; maintains progress logs, status reports, and compliance records; prepares close-out reports on completed projects.

Conducts on-site performance audits to evaluate progress of projects and review grant files and contract documents; completes monitor checklists and prepares correspondence to grantees detailing areas of non-compliance.

Interprets and explains state and federal rules, regulations, and guidelines applicable to assigned projects/programs.

Assists in the development of program policies, procedures, guidelines, announcements, application packets, and related documents.

Assists in preparing and presenting program-specific workshops, training sessions, and seminars.

Provides technical assistance and advice to governmental, public, and private entities relating to grant proposal preparation and grant application completion.

Promotes public safety programs and services; responds to inquiries from public safety groups, officials, and the general public regarding the assigned program.

Prepares statistical, progress, assessment, and audit reports for the assigned program area(s).

Plans and schedules work activities to achieve established program goals and objectives.

Performs other related work as assigned.
