This is mid-level technical work securing and evaluating information required to process applications for compensation claims, registration and licensing, appeals, compliance and complaint cases, and/or other related case determinations for the Division of Professional Registration or the Crime Victims Compensation Unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.)

One or more years of experience as a Processing Technician I with the Division of Professional Registration or the Crime Victims Compensation Unit; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

OR

Three or more years of experience in processing claims or registration and licensure applications; as a paralegal or legal assistant; or reviewing official or legal documentation for compliance and/or validity; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency .

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in the areas of Business or Public Administration, social sciences, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)

(Post secondary training from a recognized vocational or business school in Office Management, Secretarial Science, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours or 480 clock hours for one year.)

Job Duties

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

Obtains all necessary documentation required to process complex applications for compensation claims, registration and licensing, appeals, compliance and complaint cases, and/or other related case determinations; compiles information into a case file for further review.

Ensures that all review processes have been completed in accordance with statutory requirements.

Monitors and reviews the status of ongoing cases.

Reviews and verifies submitted documentation for completeness, compliance, and authenticity; prepares routine correspondence explaining deficiencies and/or requests additional information.

Interviews municipal agencies, educational institutions, employers, and/or other organizations/parties to obtain information necessary for making decisions.

Searches applicable databases for criminal history information, complaints or disciplinary action, criminal and civil litigation cases, and other related information that may influence the determination.

Corresponds and communicates with applicants regarding application procedures, status or determination, and/or established requirements.

Maintains files of correspondence, financial transactions, and case determinations; updates and verifies data in computer system.

Maintains familiarity with established guidelines, policies, procedures, and statutes and applies in daily assignments.

Collects and compiles statistical information and prepares detailed reports.

Exercises independence in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities under general supervision from a designated supervisor; work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with established guidelines

Key Skills

Intermediate knowledge of State laws, statutes, and regulations governing the application process and requirements of the assigned program.

Intermediate knowledge of the policies, procedures, and operations of the assigned agency.

Intermediate knowledge of the terminology, equipment, and computer systems utilized by the assigned agency.

Intermediate knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles and practices.

Ability to provide assistance to other Processing Technicians.

Ability to work with electronically submitted data on a variety of databases.

Ability to independently gather relevant case information.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in the analysis of case information in order to expedite compliance issues and reduce delays in case evaluation.

Ability to explain and apply rules, regulations, and policies governing the processing of assigned applications.

Ability to operate a personal computer.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.

Ability to work rapidly and accurately in processing a large volume of documents.

Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare clear and concise reports.

Ability to make routine decisions in accordance with established guidelines.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, applicants, attorneys, insurers, health care providers, prosecutors, law enforcement officials, other organizations, and the general public.
