This is supervisory work overseeing a security program assigned responsibility for protecting public property and equipment against loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism, or other causes, and maintaining order and proper behavior of individuals and groups for a state facility.
Directs and supervises a security program in a state facility or office building complex with substantial security needs.
Functions as an assistant to the administrator of a security program with line authority for the supervision of the entire security force and direct supervision of all security staff on an assigned shift.
Establishes and maintains security measures for the protection of individuals and property on state grounds.
Reviews staff performance relating to established security measures and their enforcement.
Reports any breaches of security to immediate supervisor or other administrator.
Initiates investigations and prepares final reports.
Takes necessary action in cases of security violations in accordance with rules and regulations.
Reviews all reports of lower-level security staff and directs special investigations.
Participates in the formulation and implementation of all fire, safety, and disaster plans.
Maintains a visitor and employee identification control program.
Administers a lock and key control system.
Represents the facility in contacts with law enforcement agencies or in court actions resulting from investigated security or law violations.
Establishes and maintains a continuous in-service staff training program for security staff.
Participates with other facility personnel to maintain adequate security coverage, develops operating procedures, and assures that all necessary precautionary measures are taken for the protection of individuals and property.
Dispatches facility vehicles; arranges for repairs and vehicle maintenance.
Exercises considerable discretion in the performance of daily tasks and in emergency situations; work is reviewed by inspections and reports under general administrative direction.
Performs other related work as assigned.
(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility. Allowable experience and education substitutions are provided in italics below the corresponding minimum qualification statements; no other substitutions will be permitted. These minimum qualifications may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers.)
One or more years of experience as a Security Officer II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
Three or more years of experience in public, private, civilian, or military security, law enforcement, or experience within an intermediate/maximum security mental health facility performing security functions, including one or more years in a supervisory capacity; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, technical, or military school may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the stated general experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours or 480 clock hours for one year.)
By assignment, a position may require successful completion of a physical agility test administered by the hiring agency prior to employment.
By assignment, a position may require the ability to secure a license to carry firearms.
By assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
